Ramsey Electronics sells a 2m HT amp (25-30 W out, or so) for $80, or
so. It works more-or-less. Mine died after a couple years of normal
use. Currently, I'm using a/the Alinco HT amp (5/3W in, 35W out). I
don't remember the model number offhand. I wrote to Alinco about
getting more of the molex connectors they used on the power harness,
but they said that that model is discontinued. Oh well. As
for benefits, more power to hit those fringe repeaters. AS for
problems, I have to turn off the pre-amp when I'm in town.

Subject: AM receive bandwidth, Yaesu990
To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu
I find that the Yaesu 990 lacks hi's on receive AM, compared to my
Knwd 850...or any thing for that matter. Whilst I had the IF board
out to install 500CW filter, I tried a 1uf cap across the 6KHz AM
filter. It had no effect, the Yaesu still sounded quite rolled off
on the highs. Does anyone have experience w/ this "problem" ... any
fixes? Is the rolloff due to something other than the AM selected
10 and 6 KHz filters? Is that something switched in for AM? Is the
AM detector limited in bandwidth?
Over.
Thanks, Chuck Hawley-KE9UW-Urbana Illinois.

Good radio! I used one for 6 months, and only sold it because
(a) it spent 99% of its time in the shack, so an HT was adequate
for mobile use; and (b) I wanted a multimode rig (got a Kenwood
TR-751A). The -2400 is rugged, reliable, easy to use/see in the
car (big display), and pretty easy to figure out function-wise. I
had just gotten good at it when I sold mine.....
My HT is a used FT-411E, also a good radio.....but the display
is small, which is a pain.

I dropped mine on the sidewalk; it landed on its' tail and bent the outside
section of the heat-sink fin, but it came up running. Hooray for Mil-Spec!
Otherwise a good rig, with track-tuned front-end for good RF selectivity. JL

To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu
Hi,
I have a YAESU FT-5200 that has one of the LED's burned out. Is
it possible to replace or does it need to go back to YAESU? Has
anyone done this job themselves?
Thanks

Subject: Looking for magazine articles to modify Ramsey 2m radio
To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu
Folks,
I am looking for articles on how to modify the Ramsey 2m radio. I have heard,
but not seen, of an article in 73 on how to build a thumbwheel tuner. I
would like to do this, but I cant find the magazine or anyone who sells the kit.
I do have one 73 which refers to a computer controlled tuner, from Mar 93 or so.
Does anyone know of other articles or where I can find how to modify/upgrade
the Ramsey 2m radio.
Well, if anyone can help, I'd certainly appreciate it.
Thanks!

I'm looking for recommendations on behalf of a friend for a short wave
reciever under $200. This would be strictly for listening, i.e., he
has no intention of using this as part of a 'seperates' transcieving
setup. Provision for an external antennae is a must, though. Any
recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Howdy...
Would anyone out there happen to have a 24VDC/20 amp. power supply
hanging around their shack needing a good home? I need one to power a
PRC-47 (Military...hence the 24 volts...:-)
If you have a spare one that you'd consider selling for a reasonable
price (Read that: VERY CHEAP! :-), please drop me an e-mail to:
phantom@pro-haven.cts.com
and NOT to the address above as it will be inactive soon and I
won't be able to receive any mail there.....I'd really prefer something
around the Lone Star State here because a power supply this big is probably
a boatanchor, weighs a ton, and shipping it would be really tough.....
Thanks es 73!

Nope... there aren't any. And if someone says there is, I wouldn't
try it.
